  • Imaginitive design meets environmentally aware practice

The fusion of art and nature is the heartbeat of Gráinne’s work. Each piece reflects the beauty of our surroundings, capturing the delicate balance that sustains us. Her commitment to the environment extends beyond inspiration—it's woven into the very fabric of her creations.

From the selection of sustainably sourced paper to the eco-friendly packaging that protects each print, every decision is intentional. Supporting our planet is not merely a principle; it’s a vital part of the artistic process. By choosing materials that embody sustainability, she aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world while inspiring others to join her in safeguarding it. Together, we can create a more harmonious relationship with our environment through the art we promote and cherish.

Paper

A lot of time and research has gone into deciding which papers are best for Gráinne’s prints. It is not just the subject matter of each illustration that is important - the paper it is printed on is all part of the final piece of art.

For all of her prints, she has chosen to use Hahnemühle fine art archival quality paper made from 70% Agave fibers rather than traditional cotton-based papers. Agave is an undemanding plant that thrives in dry habitats, resulting in less water usage during its production. It doesn’t require any fertilizers or pesticides to grow. In the four years it takes for the plant to mature, other crops such as corn or beans can be cultivated between the agaves, which counteracts monocultures and enhances soil quality through the humification of harvest residues. Additionally, the leaves of the agave can be harvested multiple times a year over a span of up to 15 years.

The paper itself boasts a rough yet delicately defined texture, is acid and lignin-free, and is less brightly colored than other sustainable options such as bamboo. It is these unique qualities that drew her to agave paper. By integrating sustainable practices into her art, she aims to create pieces that not only captivate visually but also respect our planet, making art a more responsible and thoughtful endeavor.

Packaging

Packaging is as important to Gráinne as the paper chosen for your prints. In a world dominated by excessive consumerism and waste, she commits to a sustainable approach. Her aim is to minimize packaging while ensuring your artwork arrives safely.

All outer packaging is made from cardboard, secured with biodegradable tape, promoting recyclability. If repurposing is not an option for you, rest assured that everything can be recycled. The inner packaging is equally eco-conscious, utilizing recycled paper alongside biodegradable poly bags and bubble wrap. On the rare occasion when different materials are used, she makse it a point to repurpose packaging sourced from elsewhere.

Environmentally friendly packaging can be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Gráinne aspires to create a packaging experience that reflects her innovative ethos while caring for our planet. Your art deserves a thoughtful presentation, one that aligns with our responsibility to the environment.
